Type functions decorated by `@pulumi.getter` ()
This commit strengthens the type of the `@pulumi.getter` decorator so
that tools like Pyright infer the type of the decorated function
correctly. Prior to this, decorated properties could be inferred as
having the type `Any`. This is particularly troublesome when using
methods such as `apply`:

```python
x = random.RandomString("x", ...)
y = x.result.apply(lambda value: f"y-{value}")
```

Here, `x.result` having the type `Any` means that `value` will end up
being `Unknown`, providing no useful type information inside the lambda.
With this commit, `result` will correctly be inferred as having the type
`Output[str]`, and thus `value` will be typed as `str`. Fixes .

Allow missing stack config and bookkeeping files ()
Pulumi isn't required to write out these files, so valid tests fail when
it doesn't. Previously this behavior wasn't a problem because the return
values from fsutil.CopyFile were not checked. This regression was
changed in https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/14695.

stack names in the fully-qualified form of `organization/project/stack`.

avoid racyness from the polling library ()
The library we're using unfortunately has a race condition that's
especially worse when using polling to check for new changes of the
file. Avoid this racyness by sleeping for a bit for now, but really this
should be fixed upstream ideally.

I opened a upstream issue for this in
https://github.com/nxadm/tail/issues/67. I think we should merge this in
the meantime, as it makes this work, even though it's very hacky.

I tested this in https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/15853, where I
could no longer reproduce the failure we've seen before.

[sdk-gen, dotnet/go] Fixes SDK-generation when referencing shared types in config variables ()
# Description

Fixes
- In .NET, non-primitive types such as objects used in config variables
will be generated anyways under the `Types` namespace as plain-shaped
objects inside of the `Config` class. This is because the types from
`Outputs` or `Inputs` cannot be used directly from config. Also no
longer marking objects used from config variables as "outputs" (doesn't
make any sense)

- In Go, disable adding imports into the `config.go` based on used
shared types because these are not used/referenced in the config module
anywhere anyways.

[docs] Implement Java constructor syntax examples ()
# Description

This PR implements Java constructor syntax examples, rendering them into
the docs. It upgrades pulumi-java to 0.10.0 which includes features from
https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi-java/pull/1338

It also updates contructor syntax generator to emit an unbound variable
for resource-typed properties. We use the name of the resource as the
name of the variable:
```typescript
const example = new Resource("name", { pet: randomPet })
````
where `pet` is a property that is typed as `random.RandomPet` so it gets
assigned the (unbound) variable called `randomPet`

Previously we would skip emitting any code for resource-typed
properties. I think this gives better docs even though it doesn't
compile

revert readlines fix for nodejs ()
I've been trying to add a test for this, but it looks like the library
actually deals with splitting the lines correctly. Also reading back
through the issue again, it seems like the lines are missing the start
of the line, not the end, so this fix wouldn't work. Given that I don't
want to accidentally hide any potential issues and bring the logging
back.

The test can still be useful for the future, so I left it there.

I'm reopening https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/6768 as well.

Make function serialization work on typescript 4 and 5 ()
# Description

Builds on top of https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/15753

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/15735

There are a couple breaking changes in the typescript API that we use in
`sdk/nodejs/runtime/closure/rewriteSuper.ts`. This PR adds a shim that
is used to bridge the differences and versions the snapshots where
needed.

This does not make typescript a peer dependency yet. Instead the tests
force a specific version to be used via [yarn
resolutions](https://classic.yarnpkg.com/lang/en/docs/selective-version-resolutions/).

automation: only read complete lines before trying to deserialize ()
When tailing the event log in automation API we currently have nothing
that makes sure we read only complete lines. This means if the OS
happens to flush an incomplete line for whatever reason (or the Go JSON
encoder does, which we're using to write these lines), we might read a
line that is incompletely written, and thus will fail to JSON decode it.

Since the JSON encoder always writes a newline at the end of each
string, we can also make sure that the line we read ends with a newline
and otherwise wait for the rest of the line to be written.

The library we use in Go provides a convenient setting for this, while
in python and nodejs we need to add some code to do this ourselves.

It would be nice to add a typescript test here as well, but I'm not sure
how to do that without marking the readLines function non-private. But I
don't know typescript well, so any hints of how to do that would be
appreciated!

Move mockpackage tests to closure integration tests ()
# Description

The tests using `mockpackage` really should be integration tests. We
worked around this by including `mockpackage` in our dependencies, but
this has required some hackery in the build step to remove it again
there.

Now that we have the closure tests setup as integration tests, we can
add the tests using mockpackage there.

Fix: Don't delete stack outputs on failed deployments ()
If an update fails, update any stack outputs that were updated, but
otherwise leave existing stack outputs as-is. In other words, don't
delete stack outputs if the stack didn't successfully run to completion.

Implementation note: when we receive a RegisterResourceOutputsEvent for
the stack resource, we defer processing it until the end of the
deployment, to know whether the deployment ran to completion without
errors.

Check for protect in replace chains ()

Thanks so much for your contribution! If this is your first time

# Description

<!--- Please include a summary of the change and which issue is fixed.
Please also include relevant motivation and context. -->

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/15763.

When doing a replace chain we need to check if the resources implicated
for deletion in the chain are actually ok to delete (i.e. they don't
have `protect` set). This change fixes the step generator to check that
when building the delete chain, and adds a test for it as well.

Sadly because of the nature of the system you have to `state unprotect`
these resources if you actually want them replaced, you can't just
change `protect` in the resource options in the program. This is because
at the point we're processing the "to be replaced" resource we've only
got the old state for the implicated resource because we won't have got
it's new goal state yet because it depends on the resource we're
currently processing.

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/13917.

Improves the error message for async type errors to match the error
message users would get for sync type errors.

This also fixes the mock.test function to clear the RPCManager between
tests so an exception in one test doesn't cause other tests to fail.

`property.Map` is just a plain map in many cases, users will send
`dictionary` like values using property maps, and there's no guarantee
their keys will stick to any sort of constraints.

There are a number of places we a property map is used where we do know
the keys should stick to some known constraints. Such as the property
map for resource outputs, all the keys _should_ be valid property names
(which aren't just any string). But firstly that knowledge is given by
context, not by the type `property.Map` and secondly we're not really
doing any validation of those places yet to check things do abide by any
constraints so just using string everywhere for now is probably more
honest.

Reorganize closure tests to prepare for multiple typescript versions ()
# Description

In preparation of https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/15735 we make
the closure tests proper integration tests so that we can run them with
different typescript versions. Move each test to its own folder instead
of one large file.

This PR only changes tests, and does not touch any of the function
serialisation code.

Some snapshots had to be updated for indentation changes.

Hidden after all the test cases is the test script
[sdk/nodejs/tests/runtime/testdata/closure-tests/test.ts](dfcc953c08/sdk/nodejs/tests/runtime/testdata/closure-tests/test.ts)

destroy: implement --continue-on-error ()
Implement a `--continue-on-error` flag for `pulumi destroy`. This makes
sure we continue processing destroys even if errors occur. We will only
continue for resources which do not depend on the failed resource, to
make sure we always have a valid snapshot available, and to not leave
any orphaned resources behind.

Resources that fail to destroy will still continue to be managed by
pulumi, and the process ends in an error to indicate to the user that
there were problems and the destroy didn't succeed cleanly.

The output will continue to be the same as for failed destroys, except
we now may succeed in destroying more resources than before.

# Description

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/15729.

This fixes Assets and Archives to allow four states, as opposed to the
three that https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/14007 had enforced.

An asset can either be Text, Path, Uri, or none. That is `IsText`,
`IsPath`, and `IsURI` can all return false. Similarly for archives
except with Assets instead of Text.
This happens when a provider returns an Assert (or Archive) with a hash
value set, but no other contents.

The Asset and Archive objects have been updated to handle this case, and
a number of places in the CLI that asserted that one of
IsText/IsPath/IsURI were true have been fixed up to handle the case of
all three being false.

Send output values to transforms for dependency tracking ()
<!---
Thanks so much for your contribution! If this is your first time
contributing, please ensure that you have read the
[CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md)
documentation.
-->

# Description

<!--- Please include a summary of the change and which issue is fixed.
Please also include relevant motivation and context. -->

This engine change is necessary for correct dependency tracking of
properties through transform functions.

Unlike other parts of the runtime/provider/engine interface transform
functions do not have a property dependencies map sent or returned.
Transforms rely entirely on the dependency arrays in output values for
their dependency tracking.

This change takes the property dependency map and upgrades all the input
properties to be output values tracking those same dependencies (if a
property doesn't have any dependencies it doesn't need to be upgraded to
an output value).
This upgrade is only done if we're using transform functions, there's
currently no need to do this unless we're using transforms.

After running the transforms we downgrade the output values back to
plain/secret/computed values if we're registering a custom resource. If
we're registering a component resource we just leave all the properties
upgraded as output values.
We also rebuild the resources dependencies slice and propertyDependency
map with the dependencies recorded in the transformed properties. If the
transform didn't change the properties this will just be the same data
we encoded into the output values in the properties structure.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind with this change.

Firstly using a transform can cause a property that was being sent to a
component provider as just a `resource.NumberProperty` to start being
sent as an `OutputProperty` with the `NumberProperty` as its element.
Component providers _should_ handle that, but it's feasible that it
could break some component code. This is a fairly limited blast radius
as it will only happen when that user starts using a transform function.

Secondly, we can't know in the engine if a property dependencies are
from a top level output value or a nested output. That is SDKs send both
of the following property shapes the same way to the engine for custom
resources:
```
A) Output(Array([Number(1)]), ["dep"])
---
B) Array([Output(Number(1), ["dep"])
```
Currently both would get upgraded to `Output(Array([Number(1)]),
["dep"])`. For a component resource the SDK will send output values, and
as long as they define a superset of the dependencies in the property
map then we don't add the top-level output tracking the same dependency
set.

Fix panic when changing untargetted provider versions ()

# Description

<!--- Please include a summary of the change and which issue is fixed.
Please also include relevant motivation and context. -->

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/15704.

When doing a targeted run the source evaluator isn't aware of targets
but it is responsible for registering default providers. As such on
getting a resource event with a new provider version (e.g 1.0 -> 2.0) it
will send of a registration for the new version it's seen, which as a
default provider the step generator will accept and add to state (this
is probably ok).
However when the step generator runs for the resource using this
provider it will see it's not targetted and ignore its new goal state
just reusing its old state. This old state will be referring to the old
version of the provider (e.g "default_aws_1_0_0" rather than
"default_aws_2_0_0"), which was causing a panic in the step generator
when trying to build the overall stack state for StackAnalyze as the old
provider had never been registered.

We now catch this situation when generating the same step for a
non-targeted resource and error out that this isn't supported.

[program-gen] Fix enum resolution from types of the form Union[string, Enum] and emit fully qualified enum cases ()
# Description

This PR improves enum type resolution from strings. When we try to
resolve `Union[string, Enum]` for a string expression, we choose
`string` because it is the more general type since not every string is
assignable to `Enum`. However, here we spacial case strings that are
actually part of that `Enum`.

The result is that `pcl.LowerConversion` will choose `Enum` from
`Union[string, Enum]` when the value of the input string is compatible
with the enum. This greatly improves program-gen for all of typescript,
python, csharp and go which now will emit the fully qualified enum cases
instead of emitting strings.

Closes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi-dotnet/issues/41 which is
supposed to be a duplicate of
https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi-azure-native/issues/2616 but that is
not the case (the former is about unions of objects, the latter is
unions of enums and strings)

Ensure package generation for Go SDKs doesn't panic when encountering overly nested arrays or maps of primitive types ()
# Description

Fixes where sdk-gen should no longer panic when encountering
overly nested arrays or maps of primitive types. The generated code
still fails to compile but validation can be added later to cover cases
where we are missing primitives in the core SDK to handle overly nested
type definitions.

# Description

When replaceOnChanges is set in the schema for a property with a
multi-word name, currently, Python SDK generation incorrectly puts its
Python name into replace_on_changes.

This is wrong, because these property names are passed to the engine and
they should be engine names (i.e. schema names). All other languages
(Node.js, .NET, Go) do this correctly.

This PR adds a test case and fixes the Python generation to use the same
naming as all other SDKs.

Replace glob with fdir to avoid an indirect dependency on inflight. ()
# Description

https://security.snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-JS-INFLIGHT-6095116

Ref https://github.com/pulumi/customer-support/issues/1405

Snyk is flagging the `inflight` package. We pull this in via
`glob@8.1.0`. More recent versions of glob do not use the vulnerable
package, but we can't upgrade to those versions because of the
Typescript version we use. Instead, replace glob with fdir.

Note that we still pull in inflight via mocha, however that is a
devDependency and won't be included in user installations of pulumi.

To test, I ran:

```bash
cd sdks/nodejs
make build
cd bi
npm pack
```

Then I created a simple Pulumi Typescript program and installed the
packed file, and was able to run `./node_modules/.bin/tsc` successfully
(after adding @types/node@^17)

[program-gen] Fix panic when generating programs for MLC packages using external types ()
# Description

For an MLC package such as `aws-static-website`, it has some types which
are referenced from the `aws` package. Program-gen assumes packages are
inferred from resources and invokes, not types which caused panics in Go
(), dotnet and python
(https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi-converter-constructor-syntax/issues/2)

This PR fixes those panics. In Go the panic was due to using package
name instead of the package reference from the imported type. In dotnet
and python was due to assuming no external type references. Now we
generate nice code for all these languages.

That said, there is still an issue of resolving imports for the packages
of these external types. It works in Go, TypeScript doesn't need it but
dotnet and python do. That is why the latter are added in `SkipCompile`
in the test program.

[program-gen/go] Fix optional primitive values being derefrenced ()
# Description

Fixes where the primitive optional types were being derefrenced.
It took me a while to figure where the problem was because I couldn't
really reproduce the original issue with a new PCL program. The
`aws-optionals-pp` test case program in PCL would repro the issue when
converted from the CLI via `convert --from pcl` but not from the unit
tests even when using the exact same schema 🤔 this was really weird.
That said, the fix turned out straightforward and it does fix the same
issue in generated component resources.

Await output properties before closing the context ()

# Description

<!--- Please include a summary of the change and which issue is fixed.
Please also include relevant motivation and context. -->

This PR fixes a race condition between resolving the output properties
(from `Construct` or `Call`) and the closing of the context. The
solution is to await the output properties before closing the context.

New test cases were added for `Convert` and `Call`, with
`TestConstruct_await/unassociated_output` and
`TestCall_await/unassociated_output` being the specific repro cases.
Without the fix, the test fails as expected:
```
=== RUN   TestConstruct_await/unassociated_output
