Add a test of sending primitive values for a resource ()
We already had the "simple" provider test that just checked we could
make a resource with a single simple bool field. This adds a new
"primitive' provider and checks we can send strings, numbers, integers,
arrays and maps from the program.

Fix lookup for pulumi run script when using Volta to manage nodejs ()
We run a short script with nodejs to find the path to the nodejs SDK
entrypoint. In https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/16160 this script
was changed and used newlines.

This broke when using the Volta package manager to manage different
nodejs versions. Volta adds shim programs into the user's path that
routes to the correct nodejs executable. Seemingly Volta does not handle
the newlines in the arguments.

To fix this, we ensure that the script is on a single line.

implement engine support for invoke transforms ()
We've recently introduced resource transforms, which allow users to
update any resource options and properties for the duration of a program
using a callback. We want to introduce similar functionality for Invokes
(and eventually also StreamInvokes, Read and Calls). This can help users
e.g. set default providers through transforms consistently for all
components.

While this PR only implements the engine parts of invoke transforms, the
API for this will look very similar to what the API for resource
transforms looks like. For example in TypeScript:

```
pulumi.runtime.registerInvokeTransform(args => {
[...]
});
```

Don't count plugins from a nested policy pack in GetRequiredPlugins ()
For nodejs we look at the node_modules of all child directories of the
root path to find the required plugins. When a policy pack is nested
within a pulumi project, we were including its dependencies in the list
of required plugins. To avoid this, we stop recursing once we see a
directory that has a PulumiPolicy.yaml.

Add conformance tests for remote assets ()
Conformance tests allow us to test functionality regardless of
programming language used, by setting up a test program using PCL and
making assertions about program state before and after various
operations. This commit adds a set of conformance tests for remote
assets (that is, assets that must be retrieved from some URI), which
have until now been untested in this regard.

Conformance test for provider pre-release versions ()
Noticed this issue while doing SDK gen for parameterised providers, but
figured it deserved its own conformance test. Check that if a provider
has a pre-release semver that the _exact_ version can be reported by the
generated SDK. This already just works for NodeJS, but Python needed a
fix to write the version to `_utilities.py` rather than trying to
unconvert the pypi version from the package.

Also needed to make the conformance test checks for
`GetProgramDependencies` even weaker (which is fine, they are just a
very basic sanity check) because the provider reports a version of
"3.0.0-alpha.1.internal" while the python version is "3.0.0a1+internal".

Add not-found markers to missing executables for packagemanagers ()
During the creation of new python and nodejs projects, flag package
manages that can't be found with a `[not found]` suffix. This allows the
user to see all possible options, but also understand why the
installation will fail (Anoter PR will improve the error message for a
failed installation when the executable could not be found).

Fix non-blocking stdout/err with nodejs ()
Node will sometimes set stdout or stderr into non-blocking mode, but go
will not notice this. When go attempts to write, we get an error: `write
/dev/stdout: resource temporarily unavailable`. To avoid this issue, we
copy the output of the command to the stdout and stderr of the go
process.

Keep package refs separate from providers ()
A few weeks ago we added the concept of package references, mostly for
parametrised providers so that we wouldn't have to send the parameter
value over and over for each `RegisterResourceRequest`. This was done by
sending the package reference through the `provider` field.

Nothing yet uses this feature (it hasn't yet been added to any language
SDKs), and thinking over this the last week I realised there was an
issue using this for extension packages.

When using an extension provider it's valid to also specify an explicit
provider, which will be using the `provider` field. At this point
there's no where for the SDK to send extra information to the engine
about the parameterisation.

This is a small reworking of this idea to use a separate `package`
field, so that even for an extension type we can specify the
parameterised package it comes from and an explicit provider for it.

Add packagemanager prompt to pulumi new for nodejs ()
https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/16346 introduced the capability to
query the language runtime for additional prompts. We use this to let
the user pick a package manager among npm, yarn and pnpm during `pulumi
new` when using the nodejs runtime.

When there is no explicitly configured package manager, we re-use the
previous behaviour for determining the package manager (check
`PULUMI_PREFER_YARN` env variable, look for lock files).

Defaults to `npm` when running `new` in non-interactive mode.

# Description

The gedex/inflector (singularization/pluralization) library has been
seemingly abandoned: still no go module support, no changes in years,
etc. It was decided that we want to fork it and maintain ourselves to
ensure both a) stability and backwards compatibility b) modernization
and quality.

This PR switches the inflector library. The next step will be TF bridge.

There are no functional changes in behavior - the library code is
exactly the same.

Query language runtime for options during “pulumi new” ()
# Description

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/16309

During `pulumi new` we query the language runtime using the new
`RuntimeOptionsPrompts` RPC call to get additional prompts to ask the
user.

RegisterProvider engine work ()
<!---
Thanks so much for your contribution! If this is your first time
contributing, please ensure that you have read the
[CONTRIBUTING](https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md)
documentation.
-->

# Description

<!--- Please include a summary of the change and which issue is fixed.
Please also include relevant motivation and context. -->

This adds support for a `RegisterProvider` method to the engine. This
allows an SDK process to send the information for a package (name,
version, url, etc, and parameter in the future) and get back a UUID for
that run of the engine that can be used to re-lookup that information.

That allows the SDK to just send the `provider` field in
`RegisterResourceRequest` instead of filling in `version`,
`pluginDownloadURL` etc (and importantly not having to fill in
`parameter` for parameterised providers, which could be a large amount
of data).

This doesn't update any of the SDKs to yet use this method. We can do
that piecemeal, but it will require core sdk and codegen changes for
each language.

chore: Upgrade gocloud.dev/secrets/hashivault ()
Upgrade `gocloud.dev/secrets/hashivault` to the latest version,
`v0.37.0`, which also matches the `gocloud.dev` version we depend on.

This replaces the indirect dependency on `gopkg.in/square/go-jose.v2`
`v2.6.0`, which has a vulnerability (see
https://pkg.go.dev/vuln/GO-2024-2631), with v3.0.3, which addresses the
vulnerability.

language_test: allow more characters in the log before truncating ()
We initially introduced this limit for log messages in
https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/16117. However I've since realized
that these log messages also include useful stacktraces (when the
program being tested throws an exception), which are a bit longer.

The intention here is really to avoid *really* long messages, so
increase the maximum message size a little to still avoid those, but
allow us to see more of the stacktrace that should hopefully be useful
for debugging.

The number is mostly still based on a guesstimate of what's useful, but
it's easy to tweak if we need to tweak it further.

Return the underlying error if we can't locate the pulumi SDK ()

# Description

When locating the pulumi SDK fails with an error other than
MODULE_NOT_FOUND, return the underlying error instead of our default
error message asking to run `pulumi install`. This is helpful when
there's a typo in package.json and it can't be parsed.

avoid showing repeated messages ()
Sometimes we show hundreds of repeated messages in the logs, e.g.
"waiting for quiescence; 3 outputs outstanding". This just makes the
logs harder to read. Since we need to wait for the test to finish before
any of this is shown anyway, only log each message once and show a
little blurb about how often the message has been repeated.

(Note that for simplicity if the last message is repeated we don't show
the same blurb, but that should be okay since the last messages we're
logging are always different.)

Based on https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/16117 where I noticed
this, and I didn't want to rebase it to avoid conflicts.

truncate debug log output in conformance tests ()
This debug log output can get way too long, and GitHub Actions logs
can't even display it anymore when there are test failures. Cut each
individual message short, with an escape hatch in case someone wants to
run with the full output locally.

I had a look at the test failure in
https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/16116 and it seems like it's still
having the same issue. Looking again at the test output it's actually
this t.Log that includes the registered resource outputs, that contains
the large amounts of data. I arbitrarily decided to make the cutoff 100
chars, but that could be adjusted.

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/16092.

Last part of the fix started in
https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/pull/16100. That last PR fixed assets
and archive files, but not archive folders.

# Description

<!--- Please include a summary of the change and which issue is fixed.
Please also include relevant motivation and context. -->

Fixes https://github.com/pulumi/pulumi/issues/16092.

Two main changes in this PR. Firstly we add a test for assets/archives
to the conformance tests, and had to fix up some small issues in the
test runner to enable this (copying test data files, correcting project
directory layout, handling multi-word package names).

The other change is to fix the engine to respect the programs working
directory when serialising/deserialising assets and archives. It does
this by passing the programs working directory as a MarshalOption (n.b
this option is only really needed in the engine, program SDK doesn't
really need it because it doesn't change directories).

Had to make a fix in the test runner to not do sdk-gen in parallel, but
