Please also include relevant motivation and context. --> Currently if the engine encounters an error writing out snapshots it only logs that to the V11 log. We'd like to get to the point where the engine doesn't write out invalid snapshots in the first place, but doing this in small steps to reduce blast radius of changes to a core engine loop.
